Giant trees, soaring mountains, and deep canyons make this tandem set of national parks a must-visit destination. Within the boundaries of the parks lie Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the lower U.S states, Kings Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in North America, and several groves of giant sequoia trees whose massive girth marks them as some of the world’s largest living things.
I made my first visit to this park, last spring and was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the giant sequoias.
